The further you place the box from human activity the better your chances of having an owl use it it should be no closer than 150 feet. The rooftop needs to be 10 feet above the ground or higher. Or you can put two boxes back to back on a single pole. Place 3 4 of wood chips in bottom of box.

Birds such as tree swallows and bluebirds will nest closely to one another although they will drive away others of their own species.
